Wendell, ID

We host to up to 200 Bald and Golden Eagles from November to March. They show up when the rivers freeze up north and come in in the evening after hunting all day. We have the famous Eagle Tree on-site where bird watchers from all over come to watch them circle and land each evening like an airport (pecking order). It is a truly beautiful phenomenon to observe. The park is 50 to 100 yards away from the main tree, but the birds spread around in nearby trees. You can listen to them talk all evening and watch them leave in the morning. Some stay during the day depending on the weather. The park sits on the Historical West Point Store's property with a restaurant/beer/wine bar and convenience store that was put in, in 1947. The building is an internment camp building from Minidoka Internment Camp in the 40s. It is open 7 days a week with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. On site is the old creamery building that was built in 1927 by local dairies and one time was the grange and school building for the West Point Tract. Within a couple miles we have Box Canyon State Park with a beautiful hiking trail and swimming hole, Blue Heart a crystal spring spot to kayak into and 1000 Springs State Park. There is a lot of bird hunting in the area with flocks of geese flying overhead most of the year. a 10-minute drive to Hagerman, ID with its hot springs, fishing, water access points for more kayaking, and the Hagerman Fossil Beds. Resting Eagle is in the center of it all, but off the beaten path with beautiful sunsets behind the park looking out towards the canyon rim!
